Sector Challenges We Solve

What Makes Aviation & Airports Projects Different

BCAS Clearance is a Hard Requirement

Working inside airport terminals — airside or landside — requires Bureau of Civil Aviation Security clearance for the contractor and all site staff. Most commercial fit-out companies do not hold BCAS clearance. IBS does.

Night-Work Execution Windows

Airport construction in operational terminals is restricted to non-flight hours — typically 11pm to 5am. IBS has the project management structure and site team discipline to deliver compressed night-work execution schedules without compromising quality.

Zero Impact on Flight Operations

Any activity that could affect flight operations, passenger flow, or terminal security must be carefully planned and approved by the airport authority. IBS coordinates every phase of work with the airport operations team.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions About Aviation & Airports Projects

Is Impulse Branding Solutions BCAS cleared for airport work?

Yes. IBS holds Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) clearance. This authorises us to work airside and landside inside active airport terminals in India. BCAS clearance is a hard requirement for any contractor working inside terminal buildings — IBS is one of the few commercial fit-out companies that holds it.

Has IBS worked on airport projects in India?

Yes. We have completed fit-out and branding projects for Adani Airports. Reference project details and site photographs are available on request for qualified prospects.

Can IBS work airside inside an active airport terminal?

Yes. With BCAS clearance, IBS personnel are authorised to access airside areas in active terminals. We work within airport authority protocols — access passes, security escort requirements, and night-work windows are managed by our project team.

What types of airport fit-outs does IBS execute?

Retail store fit-outs (duty-free, fashion, electronics), F&B outlet fit-outs (restaurants, cafes, quick service), airline lounge fit-outs, airline counter fit-outs, airport authority staff facility fit-outs, and wayfinding and signage systems for passenger areas.

How does IBS manage night-work execution inside airports?

Our project management system is built for compressed schedules. Night-work windows (typically 11pm–5am) are planned to the hour — all materials, tools, and personnel are pre-positioned before the window opens. Site supervisors manage the clock rigorously. Cleanup and restoration to passenger-ready condition is completed before the terminal reopens.

Does IBS handle wayfinding signage systems for airports?

Yes. We design, fabricate, and install wayfinding signage systems — directional signs, gate indicators, facility maps, accessibility signage, and multi-language text panels — for airport passenger areas. Both airside and landside.

Can IBS execute airport projects outside Mumbai?

Yes. Our BCAS clearance and project management capability is pan-India. We have the structure to deploy site teams and manage projects at airports across India.

Does IBS handle duty-free and luxury retail fit-outs inside airports?

Yes. Duty-free retail fit-outs require premium finish standards to match the brand environment of international retailers. IBS delivers high-specification joinery, display systems, brand graphics, and MEP for duty-free, fashion, and luxury retail units inside airport terminals.

What fire and safety standards apply to airport terminal fit-outs?

Airport fit-outs must comply with DGCA and BCAS safety requirements, NBC fire safety codes, and the airport authority's own design and construction guidelines. IBS obtains all required approvals and provides full compliance documentation before any installation begins.

Can IBS install digital and LED display signage inside airport terminals?

Yes. Digital display panels, LED totems, and illuminated wayfinding signs are part of our airport signage scope. All digital installations are coordinated with the airport's central systems team for power, network routing, and content management integration.

How does IBS coordinate AVSEC access passes for site personnel?

IBS manages the AVSEC (Aviation Security) access pass application process for all site personnel. This includes document collection, background check facilitation, and pass renewal for long-duration projects. Personnel without valid passes do not enter the terminal.

What is the typical timeline for a terminal retail unit fit-out?

A standard 200–400 sq ft retail unit fit-out inside a terminal takes 4–8 weeks from design approval to completion. This accounts for material procurement with lead times, multiple night-work windows, and the mandatory security clearance process. Timelines are confirmed at project kickoff.

Does IBS handle airline lounge fit-outs?

Yes. Airline lounge fit-outs are a premium scope requiring hospitality-grade finishes, quiet zone partitioning, business centre provisions, bar and F&B infrastructure, and brand identity integration. IBS has the specification capability and BCAS clearance to execute airline lounge projects in active terminals.

Does IBS work at AAI (Airports Authority of India) airports as well as private terminals?

Yes. Our BCAS clearance covers work at both AAI-operated and privately operated airports. Procurement at AAI airports typically follows a formal tender and L1 process — IBS is set up for both tender-based and direct-award contracts.

Can IBS provide accessible and Braille signage for airport terminals?

Yes. Accessible signage — large print, Braille, and tactile wayfinding systems — is part of our wayfinding scope. All accessibility signage is produced to RPwD Act and NBC accessibility standards, and to the airport authority's specific accessibility guidelines.

What documentation does IBS provide on completion of an airport project?

On completion, IBS provides: as-built drawings for all civil, MEP, and signage elements; material test certificates; fire safety compliance certificates; BCAS site clearance confirmation; and a handover report with photographic documentation of all completed work areas.

Can IBS handle structural modifications inside terminal buildings?

Minor structural modifications — partition removal, column casing, floor penetrations for MEP — are within our scope, subject to the airport authority's structural approval process. We engage licensed structural engineers where modifications require structural calculations.

Does IBS handle F&B and quick service restaurant fit-outs inside airports?

Yes. QSR and F&B fit-outs inside airport terminals — including commercial kitchen construction, exhaust and ventilation systems, service counter fabrication, and brand graphics — are standard airport scope for IBS. We coordinate kitchen equipment vendors and MEP within the overall fit-out.

How does IBS manage material delivery logistics inside an active airport?

Material delivery to airport sites requires pre-approval from the airport authority. IBS coordinates all material delivery schedules — approved entry routes, checked manifests, and security screening compliance — as part of standard project logistics. No materials enter the terminal without the required approvals.

What is the minimum lead time to commence an airport terminal project?

From contract execution to site mobilisation, allow 4–6 weeks minimum for BCAS clearance processing of new personnel, design approvals, and material procurement. For projects where IBS personnel already hold active passes at the relevant airport, mobilisation can be faster. Contact us early to plan accordingly.
